According to NHS England, 1 in 4 adults experience a mental health problem each year. In addition, work-related stress, depression and anxiety affected almost 1 million UK workers in 2024/25, resulting in 22.1 million working days lost and accounting for more than half of all work-related ill health cases.

At Heidelberg Materials, we recognise that supporting mental health is fundamental to creating a safe, healthy and high-performing workplace. We are committed to fostering a psychologically safe culture where colleagues feel respected, valued and confident to speak openly, seek support and look after their wellbeing.

To support this commitment, we have a network of more than 200 trained Mental Health First Aiders across the business. They play an important role in raising awareness, promoting positive wellbeing, providing a confidential listening ear and signposting colleagues to appropriate support services when needed.

Our employees also have access to Health Assured, our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which provides confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through the EAP and the Wisdom app, colleagues can access a wide range of wellbeing resources, including a free helpline, self-help tools, wellbeing programmes, podcasts and text-based support, ensuring help is available whenever and wherever it is needed.

Together, these resources help us build a workplace where wellbeing is prioritised, conversations about mental health are encouraged, and everyone can thrive both personally and professionally.
