What is a higher apprenticeship?

Higher apprenticeships are actual paid jobs that are a real alternative to traditional university study.

You’ll will gain skills in your chosen career working with experienced professionals and study towards an industry recognised qualification. 

Higher apprenticeships start from level 4, the equivalent of a foundation degree, and go up level 7 for postgraduate training.

Quantity surveying technician (level 4)

This apprenticeship can be topped up to a BSc (Hons) quantity surveying and commercial management with no fees.

  • Gain skills: construction technology, sustainability, contracts, procurement, cost control, financial reporting, data analysis, administration, health and safety.

Mineral products technician (level 5) 

This apprenticeship can be topped up to a BSc (Hons) mineral products management with no fees.

  • Gain skills: mineral extraction, operational systems, communications technology, quality control, sustainability, technical reporting, critical decision making, health and safety.

Entry requirements
  • Two A Levels at grade C or above or equivalent (80 UCAS points), preferably including a STEM subject.
  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 or above including English, maths and science, or equivalent.
  • A full UK driving licence or waiting to take your test.
  • British citizenship or UK settled status.
Application and recruitment

Pre-recorded interview

  • You’ll then be invited to take part in a pre-recorded video interview and record your responses to a series of questions. This will help us assess your communication skills, motivation and suitability for the role.

Online assessment

  • If your application meets the initial criteria, you will be asked to complete an online assessment to test your numerical, problem solving and analytical skills.
    Interview and insight day
  • You’ll then be invited to an interview and insight day and be asked to prepare a 10-minute presentation on a relevant topic in advance, which will help us assess your research, communications and presentation skills. You will then attend an interview with two senior managers focusing on your skills, competencies and experience. Following the interview, you will have a chance to get a firsthand look at our industry and learn more about our business.

Assessment day

If you successfully progress past these stages of the recruitment process, you'll be invited to an assessment day that will include:

  • Interactive workshops: Exercises that simulate real job scenarios and challenges.
  • Group discussions: Activities to demonstrate teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Written assessment: A one-hour written task on health and safety.
