My experience at Heidelberg Materials

I Heidelberg materials in September 2020 as an apprentice at Chipping Sodbury Quarry. This was a great experience for me personally, combining workplace experience alongside my academic studies. Learning key and vital information to help me progress through my career.

For me personally I spent a lot of my time as an apprentice understanding how to operate and complete successful maintenance practices on static plant, working closely with the site manager and maintenance fitters.

This development allowed me to progress into my next role as a process technician, being involved with maintenance and processing improvements across the Southwest. Being involved with the roll out of CheckProof across multiple sites and working on various condition-based monitoring technologies. I was also able to deliver measurable cost savings, be involved with area meetings and gain exposure to the wider business and understand the strategies which were being implemented allowing growth and development across sites in the area.

My progression within the business led to promotion to Production Supervisor, where I now lead daily production operations, drive health and safety performance, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help deliver production targets. This progression demonstrates how the combination of structured learning, hands-on experience, and personal commitment can create long-term career opportunities within the organisation. The skills which I have picked up from both my previous role and my time as an apprentice have aided in my role a great deal and will hopefully continue to help in my future progression.
